Rough and Finish Profile Milling of Bronze Forging

The Problem:Customer needed to rough and finish mill a bronze forging. Roughing operation was .150″ stock removal at 2″ depth of cut. Finishing operation was also 2″ depth of cut.
  
The Solution:For roughing, we recommended a 1″ diameter Cleveland Twist Drill PM Plus Series 538 roughing end mill with TiCN coating. Cutter was run at 1,500 SFPM (5,700 RPM, 180 IPM).For finishing, we recommended a 3/4″ diameter Cleveland Twist Drill PM Plus Series 538 end mill also with TiCN coating. Cutter was run at 1,500 SFPM (7,600 RPM, 274 IPM) taking .012″ per tooth. Customer reported zero deflection.Customer could not say enough about the performance of the two PM Plus tools.
